During the day, head to top-level decks to play pickleball at sea amid an ever-changing ocean backdrop or rejuvenate with therapeutic spa treatments at the Spa & Salon. As shown on the following pages, Holland America Line added a gorgeous new bar, new dining options, exciting new entertainment venues, and upgrades to some of the suites on the Eurodam. In 2018, Holland America contracted with ArtLink, a London-based art curator, replacing Park West Gallery which supplies most other cruise lines. The art on display and available to purchase in ship galleries is exclusive to Holland America and comes from emerging artists from ports visited by the line.

We had our initial excursion cancelled the night prior to arrival, citing weather conditions. However, HAL recommended an alternate excursion - "(6 hour) Two Site Reef Snorkel by Sailing Catamaran." This excursion was marked as strenuous and lived up to its billing. First there was a 45-minute bus ride to a beach on the other side of island to meet the catamaran, which we found enjoyable. After disembarking the tour bus, you walk down this steep stairway down to the beach. From there, you put on a life jacket and board a wooden powerboat to reach the catamaran in rolling seas, which was quite an adventure and not at all recommended for anyone needing assistance. We were assigned Veranda Stateroom , Navigation Deck, which was located on the aft, starboard side of vessel under the Sea View Pool and Bar.

The new Library on Eurodam offers plenty of titles ranging from fiction to non-fiction and even genres like manga and graphic novels. Evening performances include special guest entertainers, comedians and other performers, which tend to feature more on Holland America these days rather than large-scale productions. Passengers can check their email, browse the Internet, or read the online New York Times. The Eurodam also has Wireless Internet hotspots available throughout the ship. Internet access is also available in the cabins, but it seemed to be much slower than in the public areas. The Lido pool sculpture is made of lightweight stone and functions as both a sculpture and an eight-foot high waterfall which guests can walk through as they enter or leave the pool.

Eurodam, which debuted in 2008, is a classic example of Holland America Line's attention to architecture, design, dining, enrichment and entertainment. Thanks to an early 2023 refit that refreshed cabin and public room decor and even added a brand-new library, the feel of the ship is still as relevant today as it was on its inaugural voyage. From end to end, the Spectrum of the Seas length equals 935 feet (285 meters). Compare that to the average ship length of all 11 active vessels in Holland America fleet, measuring 922 feet (282 meters).

It also happens to have a unique menu of cocktails and drinks, and hosts Happy Hour daily from 4 p.m. There are plenty of bars and lounges on Eurodam, though most passengers will likely find themselves gravitating towards a favorite by the end of the cruise. Our own favorites are the Ocean Bar on Deck 3 and the Tamarind Bar on Deck 11. The Casino on Deck 2 midship is standard fare with slot machines, gaming tables, and regular tournaments such as Texas Hold'em and lotto drawings. The good news for gamblers is that you can enjoy the Billboard Onboard music spilling over from across the hall.
The 3 to 6-year-old kids' area of Club HAL resembles a kindergarten-type playroom that has seen better days. There are tons of sunning spots at the Lido and Sea View pools on Deck 9. There is also the Retreat overlooking the Lido pool on Deck 11. Trivia takes place most days in varying locations, and there are blackjack and Texas Hold'em Tournaments in the Casino (when the ship is at sea), party bridge in the upper dining room and bingo in the Queen's Lounge.

We loved the extra depth of the balcony over other ships we have sailed on; definitely did not feel crowded. The Room Steward was very attentive; promptly turning around stateroom in the morning and evening. Note that they will only clean the stateroom once daily (morning), but you can request evening turndown service, changeout towels, etc., which we did request. All Suites and Balcony cabins feature floor-ceiling sliding doors opening to a private veranda with lounge furniture (1 table and 2 chairs /Penthouses are with additional sun loungers and small tables). Service on Eurodam, as with the entire Holland America Line fleet, is consistently stellar. From the cabin stewards to the waiters, affable bar staff and friendly entertainment and cast members, onboard service is attentive and friendly. Speaking of the entertainment onboard Eurodam, it's top-notch and stays true to the quality Holland America has committed to.
Due to the cruelly short duration of my sailing and the limitations of my liver, I couldn’t take full advantage of the Eurodam’s 12 bars and lounges. I enjoyed exploring the unique spaces though and photographing the menus (#cruiseporn) to study in advance of my return in April. I’m currently busy preparing an A-Z list of drinks to try with my mother-in-law so she’ll tell me embarrassing stories about Mr. Cruise in her compromised state.
With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a private verandah, these spacious suites are flooded with light. They feature a large sitting area and two lower beds convertible to one king-size bed—our signature Mariner's Dream™ bed with plush Euro-Top mattresses. The bathroom comes with a dual-sink vanity, full-size whirlpool bath and shower, plus additional shower stall.
When I informed him that I was a vegetarian, he checked to see if I would be continuing on the next leg to Hawaii so I could view and order in advance from the extensive vegetarian menu for subsequent nights. Families traveling with babies and toddlers may arrange to get commercial baby food, diapers and an in-room refrigerator for a nominal fee by advance request through Holland America's Ship Services Department. A limited number of high chairs, booster seats and cribs are available at no charge. Eurodam does not have any family staterooms, but they do have triple and quad cabins in various accommodation categories.
The Rembrandt Restaurant is ship's 2-deck Main Dining Room, and it's open daily for open seating breakfast and occasionally for open seating lunch. At breakfast, there are a lot of choices, from yogurt, fruit and granola, to corned beef hash, pancakes and eggs prepared in many ways. When lunch is served in the Rembrandt, the choice of options is perfect and includes salads, starters, soups, entrees and desserts. It's a relaxing and civilized alternative to the Lido buffet. Pinnacle Grill is the ultimate steakhouse at sea, where an exceptional menu and impeccable service make for one of finest meals you’ll ever have. Every dish is exquisitely prepared, beautifully plated and complemented by a vast collection of award-winning wines.
Beyond that, passengers vary, depending on the ship's itinerary and the time of year. As years go on, couples in their thirties and forties aren't uncommon to find aboard Eurodam, and families with children are present, too -- though mostly during school holidays and not in huge numbers. Unlike many big ships, Eurodam feels delightfully uncrowded, except for breakfast and lunches in the Lido Market at high-volume times. But there are so many dining options for all meals, that it's easy to escape the din of the buffet.
Shuffleboard courts can be found along the aft sides of Deck 10. Two Ping-Pong tables are on the port forward corner of the Lido pool deck. Lastly, there is a 360-degree promenade for walking on Deck 3, where nine laps around are a mile. Keep in mind, too, that Holland America Line offers subtly different menus at nearly every bar, meaning it's good to bounce around the offerings on Eurodam to find the one that fits you best. Other evening activities include wine tastings, bar hops, late-night dancing to the hits and casino competitions.

MS Eurodam staterooms (1052 total, in 38 grades) include 116 Suites, 602 Balcony, 179 Oceanviews, 155 Inside cabins. Nearly 70% of all staterooms have private step-out balconies, and 86% of all cabins are outside, On Deck 11 are located Juliet cabins (false/French balcony rooms).
Aside from Eurodam's musical and culinary demo venues, there are Broadway-style productions, concerts, comedians and magicians that entertain guests at every turn. The 360-degree Promenade Deck features traditional teak decking lined with chairs and plaid blankets that are reminders of the romance of the early days of transoceanic travel. Indeed, Holland America plays up - and pays homage to - its long and storied history aboard Eurodam.
